Upgrading Legacy Systems to Hyperion

Note: This case study describes an on-premises Oracle Hyperion implementation. Those capabilities are delivered today in Oracle Fusion Cloud EPM: Planning with its Workforce and Capital modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Reports, and Smart View, with data loaded through Data Integration. CloudADDIE delivers the same outcomes on the current cloud platform.

The Client

A Fortune 500 industry leader and ongoing client, positioned for acquisition.

Environment

The Situation

The client needed help modernizing legacy systems that had been in place for more than 25 years. Its technology and processes had to change significantly for the health network to stay competitive. The executive team engaged a technology consulting firm to deploy Hyperion Planning, Workforce, and Profitability and Cost Management to improve productivity, cost savings, and reporting.

CloudADDIE was brought in as a subcontractor in the early stages of the large-scale project to lead the Hyperion Planning implementation. The team's early performance drew the attention of the client's decision-makers, who were contending with another subcontractor's delayed delivery of Hyperion Workforce. Within the first two months, CloudADDIE was asked to take over and deliver the Workforce implementation as well.

The third component of the engagement was streamlining the client's cost allocation process using Hyperion Profitability and Cost Management (HPCM). The existing process drew from three disparate systems, and analysts needed three to four hours to allocate costs across those legacy platforms. A subject-matter expert, one of the leading HPCM resources in the industry, had been hired to manage this piece, but before the project launched, the client and that consultant reached an impasse over fees. CloudADDIE was again selected to take it over, come up to speed on the technology quickly, and hit critical delivery dates within budget.

The Process

Within the targeted one-year delivery timeline, CloudADDIE designed and built customized Hyperion Workforce, Hyperion Capital Expense Planning (CapEx), Hyperion Planning, and Hyperion Profitability and Cost Management applications to meet the client's business needs. The team configured the solution to allocate costs from the interim parent cost center down to individual units, revealing actual costs across the organization. Data from the legacy systems was loaded into Hyperion using Financial Data Management, and calculation logic was built to accurately report revenue, cost, capital expenditure, and cost allocation. The team also created more than five custom reports in Financial Reporting Studio, then trained users across all four Hyperion applications, Financial Reporting, and Smart View.

The Results

Every project was completed on time and within the anticipated budget. After the Profitability and Cost Management application went live, the client could allocate costs down to the penny and cut task completion time from more than three hours to 45 minutes.

Testimonial

"This project was transformative for our organization. The extensive system upgrades have moved us into a new era of productivity, responsiveness to members, and cost control. The CloudADDIE team kept it all moving forward, from requirements gathering and discovery to implementation and training. They gave us the tools we needed, but they also identified ways for us to use our systems that exceeded our expectations. Our relationship continues, and I can always call the CloudADDIE team for direction when we have questions."

The CloudADDIE Promise

CloudADDIE prides itself on due diligence and a clear understanding of the full scope of work. We employ subject-matter experts with deep experience and knowledge, and because of that, we stand behind our quoted completion date and budget.
