The Origin
It started at Compaq, before HP acquired them, when a manager handed Prince access to Essbase 6.0 with no instructions and three words: figure it out. He did. And he never stopped.
That moment set the template for everything that followed. Not a prescribed methodology, not a requirements document handed down from a steering committee, just a genuine instinct to go directly to the people who would actually use the finished system, understand what was making their work harder than it needed to be, and build something that solved the real problem instead of the stated one.
